In the Brush Creek Valley of Western Colorado, nature and luxury combine in unexpected and wonderful ways.
The hillsides rise steeply, more than 2,000 feet straight up, from the green valley to the top of Skinner Ridge.
Below the cliffs, sheltered by the canyon walls, there is a resort with a lodge and a lake and guesthouses, as refined and elegant, as the land is wild and untamed.

Kessler Canyon is first a ranch with more than 23,000 deeded and leased acres that sprawl for miles through the valley and across the mesa.

Kessler Canyon is located 17 miles north of Interstate 70 between Grand Junction, about an hour to the west, and Rifle, about an hour to the east.
The property’s 23,000 acres include 14,096 deeded acres and 8,600 acres leased from a neighbor.
The canyon itself stretches for six miles within the ranch. The ranch itself extends for another 12 miles along the mesa.
The Powder Horn Ski Area is 45 minutes from the ranch. Vail, Beaver Creek and Aspen ski areas are two hours away.
Denver is about 230 miles from Kessler Canyon, with the Denver International Airport about four hours by car from the ranch. Walker Field near Grand Junction, about an hour from the ranch, has direct commercial flights to Denver, Dallas, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and other regional hubs. Garfield County Regional Airport at Rifle accommodates most private aircraft.
When entrepreneur Richard C. Kessler bought the property, it was an unimproved ranch.
Nature gave the place good bones. Kessler, who is known for developing exquisite luxury hotels, built the rest.
Kessler’s vision produced an award-winning resort that remains at its heart a true Western Colorado Ranch. The main lodge and guesthouses are scaled for intimate gatherings and small groups—perfect for entertaining friends and family.
This authenticity and attention to scale makes the ranch quite suitable for private ownership as a hunting property or a family retreat.
Homestead Lodge has 20,000 square feet, furnished with original artwork and Western furniture. The ground floor features public rooms with large stone fireplaces and deep leather sofas. The main dining room and kitchen, well-appointed executive board rooms, a pro shop and a VIP suite also are on the first floor.
Guest rooms are on the second floor of the lodge.
The owner’s suite occupies the entire third floor.
The lodge also has a private wine-tasting room, a movie theater, an exercise room, a game room and two secured room for guns and collectibles. The Poseidon Spa has massage rooms, sauna, steam room and baths.
Eight acres of manicured lawns and 100-year-old apple trees from the original orchard surround the Homestead Lodge.
The Orchard Lake Guesthouse has a private VIP suite with living room, dining room and kitchen, plus five guest rooms, a large meeting area and a rod-and-gun room.
Kessler Canyon is well suited to host large corporate events.
There are four lakes for canoeing and fishing.
Elk and deer range the mesa along Skinner Ridge.
Quail, pheasant and turkey —
the valley and along the creek provides a rich natural habitat for upland birds.
Throughout the ranch, the native grasses and brush have been managed to support the wildlife.
For the hunters, there are superb amenities modeled after some of the finest hunting lodges in Europe and Africa.
There is eight-station shooting pavilion — perfect for target practice and competitive marksmanship – or lessons from the Kessler Canyon Shooting Academy instructors.
Rod and gun rooms provide secure storage for firearms. And then there is the Safari lounge for drinks after the hunt.
For the archers, there is a walking course with 12 targets.
Kessler Canyon has top-quality maintenance and storage building, garages, kennels and mechanical facilities, as well as staff housing.
Hiking, ATV and horseback trails crisscross the ranch.

This ranch located minutes outside of Durango, Colorado is truly exquisite and was awesome spending a couple of days in this paradise of a property. You’ll notice there are 3 videos here. We usually produce a teaser video, or two for various promotional needs. Then produce a complete “feature” video as we like to call it.
